Features:

  • Marine-grade trailer brake assemblies let you change from an idler axle to a disc brake axle
  • Disc brakes deliver better performance than drum brakes
    • More consistent stopping, even at highway speeds
    • Dramatically shorter stopping distance
  • Maintenance costs are lower than for drum brakes
    • Fewer moving parts to maintain, repair, and replace
  • Superior corrosion resistance for marine applications

  • Slip-on, cast iron, over-the-hub rotors
    • Fit over standard idler hub and are held in place by wheel and wheel bolts
    • Remove easily for maintenance - no need to replace entire hub-and-rotor assembly if only hub or rotor becomes damaged
    • Increase distance from hub face to hub face by 1/2"
    • Prevent heat-related damage with vented design that effectively dissipates heat
  • Calipers are self-adjusting for smooth, equal braking
    • Cast iron construction does not flex like aluminum
    • Low-drag design retracts piston farther than other calipers for a cooler-running brake
    • Stainless steel piston is 2-1/4" in diameter for more braking torque
    • High-performance, ceramic brake pads
  • Stainless steel backing plates on brake pads prevent corrosion
  • Ductile iron mounting brackets provide strength and durability
    • Side-support design ensures that load is placed on bracket, not bolts
    • Extra embossing for additional thread contact ensures tight, secure mounting for caliper guide bolts
    • 5-Bolt brake flange mounting configuration - weld-on flange sold separately
  • Kit includes 2 assemblies
    • 2 Dacromet coated, cast iron rotors

Disc Brakes

More and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes, and with good reason. Disc brakes deliver consistent braking - even at highway speeds - unlike drum brakes, which often show a substantial drop in braking torque at higher speeds. In addition, disc brakes offer a substantially shorter stopping distance than drum brakes. Disc brake calipers have only one moving part, rather than the many found in drum brakes. This means that there are fewer parts to maintain, fewer parts to get damaged, and fewer parts to have to repair or replace, thus reducing maintenance costs.

Corrosion Resistance for Marine Use

This disc brake assembly resists corrosion, making it ideal for use on your boat trailer. All KodaGuard calipers undergo a test in which they are sprayed with a 5-percent salt solution to determine corrosion resistance over time. These products are able to withstand 600 hours of constant exposure to the saltwater mist. This 600-hour salt spray rating indicates that this product is not only durable enough to last in freshwater environments, but it can also be used on trailers that come into contact with saltwater.

In addition, the rotors and caliper mounting brackets have a Dacromet plating, which offers a 300- to 400-hour salt spray rating. The pistons, the brake pad backings, and the caliper mounting bolts are stainless steel. These corrosion-resistant components make this Kodiak assembly a natural choice when installing disc brakes on your boat trailer.

Over-the-Hub Rotors for Easy Replacement

Kodiak's slip-on, cast iron rotor makes it easy to convert an idler axle to a disc brake axle. Simply place the rotor over your hub. It is most often wheel bolt piloted for a loose fit and then held in place by the wheel itself. With a separate rotor and hub, you can easily repair or replace one element of your brake system without having to junk the whole thing.

The rotor is made from cast iron, matching SAE specifications. Cast iron is ideal for high-temperature operations and offers a favorable friction coefficient to ensure adequate stopping power. Kodiak's rotors are vented to effectively dissipate heat, dramatically reducing the incidence of heat-related damage.

Calipers

Kodiak calipers are constructed of cast iron to prevent flexing. Less flex means more braking torque, resulting in smooth, even braking every time. The corrosion-resistant stainless steel piston is 30 percent larger than standard pistons, ensuring shorter stopping distance and increased torque. In addition, the unique low-drag design of Kodiak's calipers allows the piston to retract farther than in most standard models, giving you a cooler-running brake.

Mounting Brackets

Designed for axles with 5-bolt brake flange configurations, the included mounting brackets are made of heavy-duty ductile iron that is embossed to provide additional threading for guide bolts. The added thread strength ensures a tighter, more secure connection between the caliper and bracket. Another unique feature of Kodiak's brackets is the side-support angle, which guarantees that the load is carried by the bracket, rather than the bolts.

  • What Parts do I Need to Switch My Brakes to Disc Brakes on My 2022 Jayco Eagle Ht 29.5 bhds?
Thinking about making the switch to disc brakes, always a great idea! We definitely have the parts to make the switch. Unfortunately, I don’t have a database showing what components are installed on each camper (I wish one existed, it would make my job a whole lot easier!). With that said, based on my research, it looks like you should have (2) 5,200 lb axles (you’ll want to double-check your axle tag). Here’s a list of what you’ll need: - (4) Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 5,200-lb...

  • Determining Correct Axle Upgrade For 2018 Grand Design Imagine Travel Trailer
I would be happy to make a recommendation for upgraded axles and suspension components for your 2018 Grand Design Imagine 2670MK, but first I will need a few measurements from your current components. Starting with the axle you will need to measure your current axles from hub face to hub face and from spring center to spring center to determine the correct length the replacement axle would need to be. For example the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with E-Z Lube Spindles - 89" Long - 5,200 lbs...

For your 2010 Keystone Laredo 266RL a Disc Brake trailer brake upgrade would provide you will a lot better stopping power. You would need to remove your current brake assemblies and hubs. The disc brakes will also require some modification to your trailers braking system. You will have to use an electric over hydraulic brake actuator which may require a different brake controller and run brake lines that will need to be filled with brake fluid and properly bleed. • Hubs to Use With Kodiak Disc Brake Kit K2R526DKG
Since the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit part # K2R526DKG is a slip on disc brake kit you would need an idler hub like the part # AKIHUB-655-6-EZ-K which is a 6k hub and has the correct 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern. We don't have a Dexter hub in this configuration but the etrailer hub I mentioned would work really well and is also pre-greased with LMX red grease too for an easier and cleaner install.

However, since your back axle uses hub-centric wheels I cannot recommend a slip-on kit like part # K2R526DKG although this kit matches your axle capacity and bolt pattern.
